A beginners guide to Kentico Cloud

What is Kentico Cloud?

Kentico Cloud is a headless content management system.

“Headless publishing environments” are a rethink of the traditional CMS.

The traditional CMS

If you have ever edited content on your website, you probably worked in an environment that looked like the published page. You might have got to the page in a list that looked like your menu or sitemap. You might even have experienced the challenge of formatting going crazy or things looking ‘broken’.

Many content management systems hold the content in pages, alongside the ‘front-end’ design. They’re often ‘all-in-one’ – with forms and other widgets (think WordPress or Squarespace).

Headless CMS

Like the headless horseman, in a headless CMS the brain has been removed from the body.

Kentico Cloud is a content publishing hub. In it, you can create different pieces of content without fear of breaking the front end. A series of code-based rules determines how your content shows up for your audience.

This means that you can have content sent to many different front ends. You can use your content like tetris blocks within a single website, or send it to any number of different websites or apps.

Who uses Kentico Cloud?

Kentico Cloud is a perfect solution for businesses who,

Have multiple locations or a wide range of content producers

For example, government agencies

Kentico Cloud is a low-risk publishing environment. When you enter content into Kentico Cloud you are, in effect, filling out a big form. You can control the consistency of content in terms of both structure and formatting.

Produce huge amounts of content or have strict publishing workflows

For example, travel organisations

A headless environment helps everyone stick to the job that they know best. Writers worry about writing, fact-checkers worry about proofing and (after the initial set-up) developers only intervene when you need something new.

Kentico Cloud allows you to set up custom publishing workflows. Maybe you need to lock-down permissions to different pieces of content? For example, product people limited to products, bloggers to blogging etcetera. Publishing doesn’t have to be centralised through one or two people, promoting cross-team collaboration.

Manage multiple digital products or white-label content with Kentico Cloud

For example, financial institutions

Manage your apps, intranet, multiple websites or digital billboards  from one central place. Headless publishing environments are  bespoke and API-driven. What does this mean? The options for displaying and sharing content are infinite. Kentico Cloud centralises content publishing, while simultaneously de-centralising content creation.

Have highly structured, repeatable content with Kentico Cloud

For example, real estate agents and shopping centres

This is where Kentico Cloud really saves people time. It’s perfect for anyone who has a standard ‘form’ type structure for any site content. Make it faster for your team to create new pieces of content, without huge amounts of technical training or fear of breaking something.

Why use Kentico Cloud?

Our Kentico Cloud process

1. Content Strategy

Get your content organised in the best way possible. We’ll plan a structure that works for your audience and is easy for your team to manage. We’ll get in and understand each section of your business. We want to make sure every part of your solution fits your team, culture, systems and processes.

2. User experience and interface

Once we understand the structure for your content, we’ll design a site that shows off your content. This is a truly content-first approach. We don’t want you to feel like you have to shove content into design – or have to wait for us to build to start writing.

3. Get integrated!

Integration is key to getting your Kentico Cloud content to appear where you want it to. We build bridges between your systems and get them working together. We will set up your bespoke content environment, develop the full front-end interface – and get them talking!
